Band Aid

Band Aid 20 spent the whole of December 2004 at UK No. 1. The third in the Band Aid lineage, it was preceded by the original version of Do They Know Its Christmas(1984) and Band Aid 2 (1989). Co-writers Bob Geldof and Midge Ure have been at the musical helm of all three versions, while Bono is the only artist to have appeared in the original line-up as well as the new. Contributors to Band Aid 20 – among them Thom Yorke, Chris Martin, The Darkness, Keane, Travis, Robbie, Busted, Jamelia, Will Young, The Sugababes and the unmistakable Dizzee Rascal – saw the track outsell every other record in the UK top 40 put together upon its release. The proceeds of Band Aid 20 – likely to be in the region of £3million pounds – are going to help the victims of the crisis in Darfur in Sudan as well as aiding other humanitarian efforts in Africa.
