Jamie Cullum will be familiar to BRITs audiences following his duet with Katie Melua on the old Cure Classic, Love Cats last year. The 25 year-old Wiltshire native learned piano as a child before performing as a jazz singer/ pianist in bars by night during his student days at Reading University. By 19, Cullum had released a self-financed CD, then a Candid records release Pointless Nostalgic came in 2002. That collection captured the attention of Radio 2 (in particular Michael Parkinson) and Verve Records, who went on to release the major-label album Twenty-Something in 2003. Twentysomething is the first album by a UK jazz artist to achieve UK platinum sales.
