PJ Harvey

Polly Jean Harvey grew up on a farm in Dorset and formed a folk band, The Polekats, before spending two and half years in another band, Automatic Dlamini. Two of the group's members, Rob Ellis (bass) and Ian Olliver (drums), later joined Polly in London to form part of another band, confusingly, also named PJ Harvey. Indie tune Sheela-Na-Gig taken from the album Dry (2002) secured the band a deal with Island Records. The press were mesmerised by Polly's individual style and she became officially a solo artist in 1993. In 1994 she performed a BRITs duet of the Rolling Stones' classic Satisfaction alongside Bjork. Polly followed her 2002 collection Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea with 2004's Uh Huh Her, which also won her a nomination for British Female at last year's BRITs.
