William Robert Young won the first Pop Idol contest in 2002 and has gone on to enjoy great – and continuing - solo success. The 25 year-old released a debut single Evergreen/ Anything Is Possible in February 2002, which became the fastest selling debut single of all time. Will’s first solo album, From Now On, made UK No. 2 in October of that year, but he was ambitious to do more as his second largely self-written album showed. Will’s No. 1 sophomore album Friday’s Child (Dec 2003) is five X platinum so far. The Hungerford lad Will has also won numerous awards, including Best Newcomer at the BRITs 2003 and an Ivor Novello songwriting gong for the single Leave Right Now. Will’s 2004 ended with Band Aid 20 and his first foray into acting - he will soon appear in the BBC film Mrs Henderson Presents, directed by Stephen Frears.
